Williams Lake Totem Pole Unveiling

Williams Lake, July 25th, 2016 – Todd was on hand for the 40th Annual BC Elders Gathering in Williams Lake earlier in the month. Chief Joe Alphonse opened the event by unveiling and presenting a brand new Totem Pole to the City of Williams Lake.

“I was truly honoured to be a part of this significant event,” said Todd. “Chief Roger William approached me and asked if I would join the ceremonial drummers. It was a humbling experience and I can’t thank him enough for allowing me to take part in the action.”

“The beautifully crafted totem pole is meant to represent the strength of the many First Nations families,” continued Todd. “It is a testament to the strength of our First Nations communities throughout BC, and indeed, all of Canada.”

Master Carver Skip Saunders from the Nuxalk Nation in Bella Coola slept beside the pole for three months, working on it everyday.
