Honoured to be Named to Shadow Cabinet

As parliamentarians returned to Ottawa to resume activities in the House of Commons for the fall session, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and Member of Parliament for Sturgeon River – Parkland, announced that MP Todd Doherty had been appointed as Official Opposition Critic for Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.

“Todd Doherty has been an effective MP from British Columbia and will hold the Liberals to account on the Fisheries and Coast Guard files, including the appearance of conflict of interest by the Minister,” said Ambrose.

“I am honoured to once again have the opportunity to not only represent the constituents of Cariboo – Prince George, but to serve as critic in these vital roles. I look forward to these new responsibilities, and the chance to serve as an effective member of our Conservative team,” said Doherty.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs in support of Canada`s economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters. The Canadian Coast Guard is a special operating agency within the DFO.

“I look forward to my new responsibilities in this role, and will continue in my capacity as Member of Parliament for Cariboo – Prince George to champion the interests of my constituents, and indeed all of British Columbia. I will hold this government accountable and fight for the rights of our fisheries here in Canada, as well as those who serve in the Canadian Coast Guard.

”MP Doherty will continue in his role as Official Critic for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.
